Located in the heart of the Place des Commencements on the riverfront, the permanent and interactive installation "Oars of light" allows visitors to see if they have their sea legs. The Port of Montreal's objective was to animate and illuminate the public space at the Grand Quai in order to gather and incite visitors to appropriate the place and thus make it dynamic, especially during the summer season.

This rowing boat gives the general public the chance to connect with the place in a playful way, to occupy the space and to participate collectively in order to achieve a common goal; to reach a safe harbour like a group of sailors at sea.
